Come be a part of the team that designs and builds analytics solutions for our clients where data and analytics are at the heart of the question.

DNV u2013 Energy Systems' Analytics and Digitalization (A&D) group is seeking an Energy Data Science Intern to join A&D Digital Lab team this summer. This role will be part of a team responsible for developing internal and external analytical solutions. This position will support our growing product development needs and will work closely with the rest of the Digital Lab team to build tools that will deliver actionable insights to our internal and external clients.

Our approach reflects the equity, respect, and diversity we wish to see in the world. The Data Science Intern will have the opportunity to learn how the A&D team conducts research to understand the impacts and optimizes the strategies of utility-scale clean energy solutions. The internship will allow the Intern to gain significant knowledge about current and future trends in transportation electrification, GHG impacts, distributed energy resources, etc., and the historical and current technological issues in the clean energy industry through on-the-job work/training and scheduled weekly learning opportunities provided by DNV experts.

What You'll Do

Data science intern position in a growing data science team of an engineering and market research consulting firm.

This role will support the delivery of client work including:
  • Assist with maintaining data pipelines by collecting, cleaning, and standardizing, and analyze data from various internal and external sources (e.g., APIs, FTP servers)
  • Use strong communication skills to translate data analysis findings into coherent written and verbal conclusions for client-facing reports and professional papers
  • Develop and maintain products that deliver data visualizations/reports to enable users to grasp concepts, identify patterns, and make better business decisions

  • Develop or improve routines that can improve business or analytic processes
  • Utilize parallelized programming (Databricks, Spark, Hadoop, etc.) for batch processing across large datasets.
  • Brainstorm, design, and code original analyses that quantify the achieved impacts, forecast potential impacts, and estimate cost-effectiveness of utility-scale energy efficiency, demand response, and distributed energy resources programs
  • Improve and recommend data collection, cleaning, and quality control specifications and data sampling techniques. Apply missing data treatments as needed
  • Model site-level energy usage using a variety of modeling techniques such as linear regressions, random forest algorithms, artificial neural networks, etc.
